Port Katherine's Boxing Club

Friends and Neighbors,

For various reasons - some my fault; some beyond all reasonable control - the first meeting of the Boxing Club did not happen this past Summer Festival.

From this experience I have learned much. For one, I will be setting a hard and fast time for our meetings to reduce confusion -

11am Saturday, at the Pitball pit.

Most of the points of order remain unchanged, and may be viewed here.

The Club will be opening with a brief (and semi-OoC) discussion of the rules, both as they currently stand officially and unofficially, as well as how they are likely to fluctuate in the future.

Related to that, we will be starting with 2 different rule-sets, which will be explained during the above mentioned conversation. Based on my observations and your feedback, either or both of these rule-sets may change.

I look forward to seeing all who are interested in this sport, be it professionally or recreationally.

To allow us to familiarize ourselves with the rules in advance, could you post a copy here?

The two rule-sets we will be using are:

A. “James’ Revised Rules for a More Civilized Sport of Boxing” which was freely available in the Library this Summer. It was also available for perusal to any who asked it of me. But, as I have said multiple times now, if you wish a ahem “take home” copy for your convenience, I am selling those, and at a discounted rate this past Season.

So, no, I will not be posting those. And considering the work I put into these, the number of times I have offered them up for sale, and the rock-bottom price I’m charging, I’m offended you would ask me to.

and

B. A modification of the rules from last Fall. I will attach those below.

Please note, either or both of these rule-sets are subject to change going forward.

Updated Official Boxing Rules
  • Contestants may hold up to 1 packet in each hand, no more. Additional packets to be scattered around the area of play.

  • Each contestant can take a number of hits equal to their vitality (including Extra Vitality) plus any virtual armor they have via Agility. Virtual armor from other sources, and costume armor, do not add to this total.

  • Packets thrown may have the “punch” call (1 damage), or the “trip” call, at the contestants’ choice

  • Packets may additionally have the “maim” call, if the contestant has those skills. Skills used in this manner during boxing ARE expended as normal.

  • Punches must hit the torso to count. “Maim” and “trip” may hit anywhere.

  • If the contestant has parries, they may use those to counter “maim” or “trip” calls delivered in a boxing bout. Parries used in this manner are expended as normal.

  • Maimed limbs recover at the end of the bout.

  • Damage incurred in a boxing bout recovers after 5 minutes rest.

Friends and Neighbors,

I am curious, who thinks they will be available for - and interested in - boxing the morning of the 2nd day of Souls?

YMHOS,
James “The Raven” Corvid
