To the Scholars of Port Katherine,

As I have watched other groups of professionals unite to coordinate and share knowledge, I have been struck by the lack of the same that we have for our scholarly population. Such an organization is essential to prevent needless accidental duplication of studies, as opposed the essential intentional duplication of studies for the verification of results, as well as peer review and the sharing of accumulated information and the formation of cooperative initiatives.

I am very happy to hear you all are interested. There are several other individuals who I think we might benefit from including, so I will be reaching out to them, as well as putting together some preliminary informational materials to help with organization.

OOG Details

I will be sending some google docs around, and making an email list, later today. If you want to be involved and think I don’t have your email address, please send it to me. ALTHOUGH unless I run out of time I will also be bringing physical versions of all these docs to the event and keeping them in the library. There will be cork boards and name cards and all sorts of movable pieces, to try to real-life replicate google doc editability, if I can get my act together, in time. I will then update the google docs to match after the event, and vice versa before the next event.

If for some reason you are not able to make it to the library, please let me know and I’ll find a different place to keep this stuff. The library is thematically appropriate, but it’s far more important that no one be left out because of physical ability, and I know that hill can be hard for some. I already have a couple of other locations in mind, if that ends up being the case.
